Turkey’s CUR rises to 84%

Based on the data published by the State Institute of Statistics (DIE), Turkey's capacity utilization rate (CUR) in manufacturing industry rose to 84% in December 2004 from 83.4% recorded in the previous month and from 79.4% recorded in the same period of last year. CUR in the private sector rose by 1.4 percentage points while it fell by 2 percentage points in the public sector compared to the previous month. The increase in the CUR is due to the increases both in the public and private sector. Public sector capacity utilization rate rose to 87.6% last month compared to 81% registered December 2003 on the back of the increase in the refining output. In addition, private sector capacity utilization rate reached 81.6% compared to 78.4% last year.
