Philippines’ exports rise by 19.5% in November

Philippines' exports showed an upward trend in November as electronics makers shipped more computer chips and disk drives to Japan and China. Exports climbed by 19.5% from a year earlier to $3.69 billion after rising 12.3% in October, the government said in a statement in Manila. Electronics exports rose by 16% to $2.49 billion. Rising overseas sales are helping drive economic growth in the Philippines, where high unemployment rate hurts consumer spending and storm damage curbs farm production. Sales to Japan surged by 47% to $874 million and those to the US rose by 15% to $570 million. Exports to Hong Kong increased by 23% to $283 million and those to China climbed by 30% to $268 million.
