Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

Capesize market was particularly volatile and dropped very quickly also due to the falling bunker prices. In Pacific, West Australia/China went from about $8/mt to $6/mt!!! Owners remained with few alternatives as Brazil kept on very quiet and Pepel stopped shipping. Out of South Africa to China rates slipped around $2/mt. In Atlantic the market followed the same pattern and for a TransAtlantic RV Time Charter levels dropped from $15,000/day to $9,000/day. Voyages basis C7 route Bolivar/Rotterdam slipped from about $9/mt to $7/mt. Period market was active at lower levels with vessels reported fixed for about one year at $14/14,500 with prompt delivery.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Atlantic was slower, not many fresh cargoes, and the list of prompt tonnage was still growing. Owners preference is to fix longer voyages also to avoid the coming holidays; this resulted in interesting premiums for quick round voyage. USG is still steady with rates around $12,500/13,000/d + 250/300,000 bb for TA and $15,000/d + 500,000 bb for trip to F East. Despite the tonnage list in Atlantic is quite long there is no competition with ballasters from F East. ECSAm was not active with a few fixtures reported around $13,500/d +350,000 bb for redely F East and $12,250 + 200/250,000 bb for Cont/Med. The Pacific market was weaker and rates trended down. The list of prompt tonnage was still growing. India was still at a premium, a smaller one, however this redely is not very attractive because of the congestion there. NoPac activity was limited and fixed around $8,500/d basis dely dop China. Australia RV was fixed between $8,500 and 9,000/d redely China and $1,000/d higher for India redely. Indonesia short trips were done at $7/7,500/d basis dely S China, India redely was $1/,1500/d higer. Period activity was limited.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

A slow down of demand started to bring some negative effects even if so far was limited. Two Supramax were reported fixed from SE Asia: a 57,900 dwt with dely near the loading port agreed a bit lower than $12,500/d for a trip via Indonesia to India, a 53,000 dwt got only $8,000/d for a trip via SE Asia to China basis dely Thailand. A 57,000 dwt agreed $10,150/d basis dely Japan for NoPac RV. A 34,000 dwt dely Spore got $8,400/d for a trip via Australia to Indonesia.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

Activity was slower also around European waters were little demand was seen for loading out of N European ports. From Med a 50,000 dwt was done at a lower $10,500/d with delivery Spanish Med for a trip to Cont. No other news about concluded fixtures from this area were avaialable while the volume of the enquiry circulated was small.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

The Transatlantic market kept showing tonnage reported at firmer rates with some remarkable deals. A 61,400 dwt did a great $20,000/d from SW Pass to Skaw/Passero; from the same area smaller Supramax were fixed for trips to central East Med at $17/17,500/d levels. Supramax trade from USG was more contradictory. A 55,000 dwt was booked at $17,000/d for a trip to China, then a much fancier 58,000 dwt agreed $16,500/d. On the other hand there were other owners saying they had fixed at over $18,000/d on the same trade. Higher rates also for business ex S America were the contradictory fixtures were openly reported. For trips to the East a 61,000 tonner was done at $14,000/d + $350,000 bb, then a 57,000 dwt agreed only $12,000 + $200,000 bb. A 53,800 dwt got a quite good $12,500/d basis delivery W Africa for a trip via Brasil and Cape of Good Hope to MEG. Transatlantic trade from Latin America saw a 58,700 dwt done at $15,500/d and a 46,500 dwt at $13,000/d.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

After a long time two vessels were reported fixed from this area showing there are big contradictions here as well. Despite the vessels' considerable size difference and the different redelivery ranges. A fancy 28,400 dwt agreed a horrible $2,000/d basis dely Pakistan for a trip via EC India to SE Asia whilst a 53,500 tonner dely Persian Gulf to load sulphur to China was reported done at an unexpectedly high $9,000/d.
