Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

After a solid start of the week with Pacif market busy and West Australia/China cargoes fixing at over $8/mt, rates turned down again and settled in the mid $7/mt. Coal cargoes from East Australia were covered at around $10,000/d. Brazil was largely absent from the spot market even if it was said not many vessel could make ETA within 20 June, suggesting some spike could be around the corner. The Atlantic side was again uneventful and the majority of spot ships there were still controlled by one operator.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Rates dropped in every basin and many vessels fixed and failed. In Atlantic the list of spot/prompt tonnage has been growing; rates were under pressure and trip to FEast at levels a shade lower than $14,000/d + 400,000 basis aps delivery (something more for Eco Kamsarmax). Also FEast trades struggled to maintain rates at previous levels because of a stronger supply and smaller demand. Most of Indo RV fixtures were agreed well below $7,000/d basis dop dely. Australia and NoPac RV broke the $8,000/d level and were mostly agreed around $7,500/d level. Not much activity for period market with just a few fixtures at $11,000/d for short period.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

The improving trend for Supramax tonnage of the last couple of week stopped. Trade remained flat and tc rates for local trips suffered a reduction between $3/500/d. A 57,000 dwt fixed a Singapore RV with sand via Vietnam at around $9,500/d. A 52,000 dwt got the same daily rate from Singapore via Indonesia to move coals to India and afterwards a slightly smaller 51,200 dwt got only $8,000/d for a similar trade. Period business registered a 63,500 dwt fixing 11/15 months duration basis deliver ex yard at a full index linked rate of 117% BSI TC. A fancy 58,000 tonner was linked to a longer commitment of 2 years at $13,000/d with an optional 3rd year at $14,000/d

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

The market in these waters was still very depressed with very scarce news of concluded business. A 50,000 dwt got only $7,500/d for a trip from Germany to Central Med, thereafter will likely fix a subsequent leg employment at quite unattractive levels. From BSea there was only a rumour for a 18 years old 29,000 tonner getting paid just $4,500/d to perform a trip to Libya with aps delivery at Ukrainian loading port.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

Supramax business out of USG remained quite steady compared to the previous week. Once again smaller Handies enjoyed a better market. A 58,000 dwt got $10,500/d from US Atlantic Coast to Cont. From USG a 61,400 dwt achieved $13,500/d from USG to Morocco and a 55,000 dwt got $15,000/d to carry pet coke to FEast. A 37,000 dwt got $7,500/d basis dely USG and redely EC Mexico. A 32,000 dwt agreed $8,500/d to carry nickel ore from NCSAm to Greece. S America grains showed some improvements; a 58,000 dwt got $13,000/d + 300,000 bb from Brazil to FEast and a less fancy 57,000 dwt got $12,250/d + 225,000 bb to Persian Gulf. A 46,000 dwt achieved $13,000/d from River Plate to W Med and a fancy 32,800 dwt got $13,900/d for a very similar trip.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

Fixtures were once again missing, however some tonnage was taken away to perform local trips. On the cross trade 35,000 tonnes of sulphurs was agreed on a voyage basis from MEG to China at $21/mts basis fast loading and discharging.
