Latin American steel production

According to Latin American Iron & Steel Institute's (ILAFA) reports, the steel consumption in Latin America is forecasted to grow by 7.5% compared to anticipated 2003 figures and reach 45 million tons in 2004. Latin American steel production amounted to 40 million tons in January-September period, up by 9% compared to same period last year while exports increased by 10.2%. The S201 safeguard measures implemented by Bush administration are not having a significant effect on Latin American exports, as most of them are semis.
