Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific) 

The Capesize market registered another negative week with slow coal activity that pushed both Pacific and Atlantic routes at lower levels. There was very little to report. W Australia started the week with rate close to $5/mt and ended at $4.60/mt with all the major miners fixing a decent amount of cargoes. C3 rates went from low $9/mt on Monday and closed fixing early July dates at $8.60/mt. Most of the activity was for beginning of July dates, however some operators covered August dates in the high $8/mt. In the Atlantic C7 was still with low volumes and the route dropped from $5.25/mt to $4.75/mt. Baltic type 180,000 tonner was worth around $6,500/d for a TA RV.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

The Panamax market registered a slight increase from ECSAm with Kamsarmax fixing around $7,500/d + $250,000 bb on fronthaul trips bss aps ECSAm delivery. 75,000 dwt vessels were able to achieve around $7,300/d + $230,000 bb for the same directions and trips to Skaw/Med were agreed at $7,750 basis delivery Plate on a 75,000 dwt. Kamsarmax size, basis India delivery, was seen fixing for trip to F East close to $5,600/d via ECSAm. In the USG area a 80,000 dwt was fixed at $10,250/d + $225,000 bb for a trip to F East basis delivery USG and a 81,000 dwt was reported at $9,500/d basis delivery Gibraltar for a fronthaul trip via USG; for trips to Continent a 75,000 dwt fixed $8,250/d with redelivery Rotterdam for end June dates. A 82,000 dwt was reported fixed basis ARAG delivery for a trip via Baltic to Skaw/Passero redelivery with coal at $5,250/d, while for trip to S East Asia a similar size was reported fixed basis Liverpool delivery at $9,500/d for trip via St.Lawrence to Cigading. In the B Sea an 80,000 dwt was fixed for one trip direction India at $13,000 delivery Kavkaz. In F East levels for NoPac RV were fixed at around $4,000/d as it was reported on a 76,000 dwt, on the other hand trips via Australia to P Gulf have been fixed at $5,100/d basis delivery Vietnam on a Kamsarmax while for trips to Spore/Japan via EC Australia were fixed around $4,000/d on an 80,000 dwt basis CJK delivery. Period levels have been fixed for 1 year at around $5,750/$6,000 on best Kamsarmax units while for 4/8 months a 76,000 was fixed at around $5,000/d all basis delivery F East.

Handy (Far East/Pacific) 

A slow start of the week quickly turned and became more active with a good number of fixtures reported on the larger sizes at improving rates for NoPac RV and for both nickel ore and coal from SE Asia to China. A 60,000 dwt delivering at Japan fixed a NoPac RV at $6,000/d with nickel ore loading from Philippines into N China. Two noneco Supramax were booked in the low mid $5,000’s basis delivery Singapore/Central China range and a 63,000 dwt Ultramax with dely N China achieved $5,700/d. Coal from Indonesia to WC India showed a standard 56,000 dwt fixing at $5,500/d with dely Spore and a 61,000 dwt getting $6,250/d for the same trip. On the coal trade from this area to N China a fancy 58,000 dwt was fixed at $6,100/d basis dely Spore, similar to another Supramax agreed at $6,800/d basis dely Indo. A 53,000 dwt agreed a trip with steels from Central China to E Africa at $4,000/d for first 60 days duration and $5,500/d balance. With a similar delivery a 33,000 dwt was fixed at an interesting $6,250/d for a trip via Japan to India with steels. Another 53,000 dwt got $6,200/d with delivery W Australia for 2/3 laden legs and redelivery Atlantic.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean) 

Less interest for larger stems loading N Europe allowed charterers to book a scrap cargo on a 55,000 dwt at $8,000/d basis dely Belgium and redely E Med. Handysize were more active, but this didn’t prevent rates to fall. Units of around 33,000 dwt were booked to E Med around $6,000/d, to Morocco at $4,250/d and around $4,000/d W Med. A backhaul from Poland to Brazil was agreed at $4,250/d. Very limited activity from S Europe, a fancy 58,000 dwt was done at $9,250/d with fertilizers from Morocco to N Zealand basis BSea loading and a 32,000 dwt fixed a very low $3,250/d basis delivery Cannakkale and redely Egypt Med.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America) 

From S America the market registered an improving trend throughout the week; this was more evident for Supramax and Ultramax sizes. Transatlantic trading was mostly linked to smaller sizes and a 28,000 dwt was fixed at $4,750/d for a trip to N Europe and a 35,000 dwt got $5,750/d to Adriatic Sea. Very limited activity from US Atlantic/NCSAm range: a 57,000 dwt standard type was fixed from Atlantic Colombia to Chile at $14,500/d, another unit agreed short period with redely ww at $9,200/d basis USG dely and a 61,000 dwt with similar dely agreed at $9,000/d for 75 days to 5 months period and Atlantic redely.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

Improving Supramax fronthaul rates from S America affected South African business and a fancy 58,000 dwt was done from SE Africa to EC India at a firmer $12,500/d. An intra MEG trip was fixed on a 55,000 dwt at $4,800/d. Another Supramax got $6,500/d from the same area to EC Inda. A 38,000 dwt was booked for a trip with fertilizers from Red Sea to WC India at $4,500/d.
