Japan’s imported vehicle sales fell by 1%

According to recent market reports, in January, sales of imported vehicles in Japan decreased by 1% to 15'334 units compared to January 2002. Japan Automobile Importers Association reported that the sales of foreign brand vehicles amounted to 13'087 units, down by 4.6% while vehicles manufactured by Japanese automakers for overseas reached 2'247 units, up by 27.5%. Volkswagen's sales fell by 5.8% to 2'967 units in January. However, company has the biggest market share in Japan with 19.4%. Mercedes-Benz announced its sales as 2'814 units, up by 0.2% with an 18.4% market share. BMW's sales were up by 2.3% to 1'665 units with a market share of 10.9%. Toyota's sales increased by 9.97% to 1'529 units while Volvo's sales amounted to 1'015 units, down by 7.6%.
