Indian finished steel output up by 3.8%

India's total production of finished steel reached 28.3 million tons during April-December 2004 period, indicating a rise of 3.8% compared to 27.3 million tons recorded in the same period of the previous year. The apparent consumption of finished steel in the mentioned period amounted to 24.9 million tons with a rise of 5.7% against 23.6 million tons registered in the corresponding period of last year. In April-December 2004 period, total production of pig iron was registered as 2.1 million tons, down by 28.5% compared to 2.94 million tons recorded in April-December 2003 period. Pig iron consumption also showed a 23.4% decline in the mentioned period. The consumption declined to 1.93 million tons from 2.5 million tons.
