Global crude steel output data for April 2004
Based on the data released by International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), global crude steel output reached 83.4 million mts in April, indicating a 6.5% rise when compared with the 78.3 million mts recorded in the same period of last year. In Jan-Apr 2004 period, production amounted to 331.5 million mts, up by 8.4% compared to corresponding period of previous year. China produced 20.9 million mts of crude steel in April. This figure indicates a 20.6% rise compared to April 2003. Year-to-date production was also up by 24.5% to 81.8 million mts. Total crude steel production in Asia reached 39.4 million mts in April, up by 11.3% compared to the same period of last year. Iran showed a significant growth in April with production of 730'000 mts of crude steel. This figure was 12.8% higher than the 663'000 mts registered in April 2003. Year-to-date production was recorded as 2.7 million mts with an increase of 8.2%. Brazilian crude steel output surged by 5.7% to 2.7 million mts in April.
