Foreign direct investment in China marks record level

China's foreign direct investments reached $60.63 billion in 2004 with a rise of 13.3% from a year earlier, the Commerce Ministry said. In 2004, contracted direct investment, which is an indicator of future trends, amounted to $153.48 billion, up by 33.4%. These figures indicate that China is still an attractive investment destination, as the country's economy continues to grow. Mainland's main investor countries are Hong Kong, the British Virgin Islands, South Korea, Japan and the US. China approved the establishment of 43'664 new foreign-invested enterprises during last year compared with 41'081 in 2003.
