European steel packaging sector accelerates recycling

According to the recently released figures, the recycling of materials in the steel packaging sector reached an average of 60% throughout Europe, marking an 8% increase compared to last year. This figure can be interpreted as the packaging sector has already reached its voluntary 2005 target for recycling as the obligation set for year 2005 is minimum 15%. The leading recycling of steel packaging is Belgium, according to industry reports, with a rate of 93%. With recycling rates ranging between 70-80% Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden and Luxemburg follow Belgium in this path.
