Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

The Capesize market continued its negative trend. In the Atlantic basin, however, rates found some support especially for prompt cargoes. From Australia rates went from high to very low $3/mt: despite bunker prices softened again TC earnings were lower. A similar trend was registered on the South Africa to China trades with Saldanha Bay to Qingdao that went from high $5/mt to $5/mt. The amount of fronthaul cargoes from Brazil seemed less than the previous week and rates followed the negative trend going from high to low $7/mt basis Tubarao/Qingdao route.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

A better $7,000/d was reported agreed on a Supramax delivering SE Africa to take a coal cargo to EC India. Otherwise the freight trend was very much negative for owners, especially for business bound to other basins.
