Capacity utilization rate in Turkey in October 2004

According to Turkey's State Institute of Statistics, the country's capacity utilization rate (CUR) in the manufacturing industry retreated to 83% in October 2004, down from 84.8% recorded in September. The CUR in October is in line with the market expectation of 83.2%. The private sector CUR dropped to 80.9% from 83.1% recorded in the previous month, while public sector CUR decreased to 85.8% from 87.4% recorded in September. The figures indicate that overheating of the economy in the first half is ending. Economic growth is expected to be normalized in 2005. In the last 12 months, the average CUR increased to 80.9% reflecting the strong production for the third quarter.
