UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that Chinese steel producer Zhejiang Nisshin Worthington Precision Specialty Steel Co., Ltd, a joint venture of Japanese steelmaker Nisshin Steel Co., Ltd., Japan-based Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. and US-based Worthington Industries, Inc., has started production at its new reversing cold mill located in Pinghu, Zhejiang Province, China, supplied by Primetals Technologies.
According to Primetals Technologies, the new equipment, with rolling speeds of up to 800 m/min, is designed to produce 120,000 metric tons per year of precision specialty steels, mainly for automotive applications. The reversing cold mill is able to process strips with a maximum width of 1,250 millimeters. The new mill will help promote initiatives for further local procurement of Japanese, American and European automotive parts makers operating in Pinghu, Zhejiang Province.
