The Ukrainian steelmaker Zaporizhstal has announced the completion of repair works at its sinter machine No.6, which commenced in late October of current year.
The overhaul at Zaporizhstal's sinter machine included the modification of its iron ore raw materials charging system, mixing drum, and its electric power system, and also the repairing of the machine's gas path and gas purification system. This reconstruction will allow Zaporizhstal to accelerate the sintering process and to lower environmental impacts.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, up to the end of 2008, Zaporizhstal plans to continue with the overhaul of its two-shaft steel smelting unit No.1 at its open-hearth shop.
Currently, depending on its overhaul schedule, Zaporizhstal is operating between five and seven of its nine open-hearth furnaces and all four of its blast furnaces.
