The government of the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan plans to continue to close down industrial facilities which are considered to pose a threat to the environment. Specifically, by the end of September this year, the provincial government plans to achieve the year-to-date elimination of 7.5 million mt of cement production capacities and 2 million mt of steelmaking capacities in the province. All of the industrial equipment in question is scheduled to be dismantled not later than the end of the current year.

The plan involves more than 300 enterprises scattered across nine cities in the province. The government has allotted RMB 30 million (about $4.43 million) to support the work for the elimination of outdated production capacities.
