Australian coal producer Xstrata has announced its production results for 2012. Accordingly, Xstrata's total consolidated coal production in 2012 rose by seven percent year on year to a record 90.4 million mt.

In 2012, Xstrata's total coking coal output from its Australian operations decreased nine percent to 6.9 million mt, while production from its South African thermal coal operations rose 16 percent to 18.7 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, Xstrata's total nickel production in 2012 increased to a record 106,873 mt, up one percent compared to 2011. This increase was driven by a full year's production of 15,186 mt of nickel in ferronickel from the company's Falcondo operation in the Dominican Republic, which operated seven percent above its current nameplate capacity.
