World pig iron output increases five percent in July

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), formerly the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), world pig iron production for the countries surveyed was 77.95 million metric tons in July, down by 6.28 percent year on year, but up 5.03 percent compared to June.
 
Meanwhile, global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in July totaled 4.63 million metric tons, decreasing by 7.58 percent compared to July 2008 and up by 1.75 percent month on month. Worldsteel data show that Iran is the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed, with a DRI output of 681,000 metric tons in July, followed by Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, with outputs of 540,000 mt and 448,000 mt respectively.
