World pig iron output up 3.5 percent in April

In April this year, global pig iron production amounted to 98.25 million metric tons, decreasing by 2.15 percent compared to March and up 3.5 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

In April, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 75.8 million mt, up by 5.9 percent, with 60.7 million mt produced by China, up by 6.8 percent, 6.8 million mt produced by Japan, up by 1.7 percent, and 4.1 million mt produced by India, up by 11.1 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.

In the meantime, in the first four months of this year world pig iron production amounted to 389.1 million metric tons, rising by 4.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
