In June this year, world pig iron production amounted to 99.6 million mt, falling by 2.05 percent compared to May and increasing by 0.5 percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, world pig iron production totaled 596.97 million mt, up by 2.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
In June, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 78.33 million mt, up 1.5 percent, with 61.67 million mt produced by China, rising 2.2 percent, 6.25 million mt produced by Japan, declining 6.1 percent, and 5.2 million mt produced by India, decreasing by two percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.78 million mt of pig iron, up 2.2 percent, while the CIS produced 6.41 million mt, down 8.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
