In August this year, world pig iron production amounted to 102.47 million mt, rising by 0.6 percent compared to July and also increasing by 1.9 percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 800.72 million mt, up by 2.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
In August, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 80.14 million mt, up 2.5 percent, with 62.6 million mt produced by China, rising 3.8 percent, 6.67 million mt produced by Japan, declining 4.7 percent, and 5.38 million mt produced by India, increasing by 0.7 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.79 million mt of pig iron, up 1.8 percent year on year, while the CIS produced 7.04 million mt, down 5.9 percent, on year-on-year basis.
