In the January-October period of this year, world pig iron production amounted to 990.45 million mt, rising by 1.7 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In the given period, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 765.5 million mt, up 1.9 percent, with 599.52 million mt produced by China, up 0.7 percent, 69.98 million mt produced by Japan, remaining stable, and 45.18 million mt produced by India, up 8.3 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same period EU countries produced 79.63 million mt of pig iron, up 3.6 percent, while the CIS produced 66.5 million mt, down 2.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in October this year global pig iron production amounted to 96.92 million metric tons, decreasing by 0.8 percent compared to September and down 0.4 percent on year-on-year basis.
In October alone, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 74.22 million mt, down 0.7 percent, with 57 million mt produced by China, down three percent, 7.17 million mt produced by Japan, up 0.1 percent, and 4.75 million mt produced by India, up 15.3 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 8.04 million mt of pig iron, up 4.1 percent, and the CIS produced 6.31 million mt, down 7.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
