World pig iron output moves upward in Q1

In March this year, global pig iron production amounted to 100.41 million metric tons, increasing by 8.63 percent compared to the shorter month of February and up 4.06 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
In the meantime, in the first three months of this year world pig iron production amounted to 289.83 million metric tons, rising by 4.61 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
