In April this year, world
pig iron production amounted to 99.71 million mt, decreasing by 2.57 percent compared to March and increasing by 0.73 percent compared to the same month of 2014, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace
pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first four months of this year, world
pig iron production totaled 389.25 million mt, down 1.64 percent compared to the same period of 2014.
In April,
pig iron output in Asia amounted to 75.7 million mt, down 1.47 percent, with 59.49 million mt produced by
China, decreasing by 2.12 percent, 6.4 million mt produced by
Japan, down 3.03 percent, and 4.77 million mt produced by India, increasing by 5.1 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same period, EU countries produced 7.93 million mt of
pig iron, up slightly, while the CIS produced 6.07 million mt, down 9.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
