Workers at Venezuela’s state-run iron ore producer CVG Ferrominera Orinoco (FMO) ended this week a strike initiated on November 15, according to a media report. Sintraferrominera asked FMO to pay promised labor benefits.

Venezuela’s El Diario de Guayana said local union Sintraferrominera lifted the halt on Monday morning following recent statements by a union supporting current Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.

According to the media report, the union, Central Obrera de Guayana, recognized Sintraferrominera’s claims and then held meetings with a local politician, in an attempt to resolve the case.

Pedro Perales, president at Central Obrera de Guayana, said the union sent materials and documents to a Bolivar state politician. Those documents should then be addressed by Venezuela’s president, Nicolas Maduro, and ask labor benefits to be compensated.

The halt in production started at the company’s iron ore processing unit and was then expanded to its HBI unit.
