Weekly US raw steel production up 10.7 percent

According to a report Monday from the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending January 9, 2016, US domestic raw steel production was 1,594,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 66.7 percent. Production was 1,807,000 net tons in the week ending January 9, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 76.4 percent. The current week production represents a 11.8 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 9, 2016 is up 10.7 percent from the previous week ending January 2, 2016 when production was 1,440,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 60.2 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through January 9, 2016 was 3,034,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 63.4 percent. That is down 15.8 percent from the 3,605,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.4 percent.
