Votorantim Metais, the metals arm of industrial and steelmaking group Votorantim Industrial, has halted output at its Peruvian zinc plant due to intense rainstorms. Votorantim Metais uses zinc in a number of applications, including steel galvanization.

Votorantim’s Cajamarquilla zinc plant, located about 20 km east form Lima, has been inundated by intense rainstorms that caused nearby rivers to overflow.

“Votorantim Metais Cajamarquilla confirms the plant’s operations were halted. The company is currently performing maintenance works [at the site] to resume operations, as soon as climate, transport and logistics conditions allow us to do so,” the company said in a statement.

According to Votorantim, the Peruvian zinc plant refines over 340,000 mt of the product annually.
