Austrian steel producer Voestalpine AG has disclosed to SteelOrbis that it has moved to a closer evaluation of four countries in the Black Sea region, namely Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine and Turkey, for the construction of its proposed flat rolling steel mill with an annual capacity of five million metric tons.

At the moment, the company is evaluating more than 10 different locations in these counties to determine the best possible option for its new steel mill. However, the names of particular locations have not yet been disclosed by the company.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian sources have reported, referring to the information provided by the Ukrainian Ministry of Industrial Policy, that Voestalpine has submitted a proposal to the ministry for the possible construction a new flat steel mill in the country's Black Sea port city of Odessa. According to the ministry, the proposal also includes the construction of a sinter producing plant. Currently, the working group under the Ministry of Industrial Policy is evaluating Voestalpine's proposal and a decision is expected to be reached in the next two months. Voestalpine has declined to comment on this information.
