Vietnam’s steel imports in the first six months of the current year totaled 10.12 million mt, declining by 15 percent, with a value of $5.28 billion, up 21 percent, both compared to the same period of the previous year, as announced by the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA).
In the January-June period of this year, China remained the largest supplier of import steel to Vietnam, with imports reaching nearly four million mt.
Meanwhile, in the given period, Vietnam’s steel exports increased by 26 percent year on year to 2.5 million mt, with a value of $1.67 billion, rising by 50 percent compared to the same period of 2016. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region remained the main export market for Vietnam, with steel exports of more than 1.18 million mt, accounting for 58 percent of the total amount of exported steel products.
