Venezuelan state-run steelmaker Sidor resumed tinplate production in January, as a way to supply the local can packaging sector, the company said in a statement this week.

Tinplate production resumed after the steelmaker produced 2,279 mt of slab.

Additionally, the local steelmaker said it plans to install a new continuous casting machine as part of the company’s ongoing plan to increase crude steel production to 4 million mt by 2018. Parts of the equipment arrived from the Yongxing vessel from China, with five vessels remaining. Sidor plans to produce seamless pipes once the equipment is installed.
