Venezuela’s largest steelmaker, Sidor, said it has halted production for two weeks, effective in the first half of October, due to a maintenance that was labeled by the state-run company as “extraordinary”.
The company said the halt in production aims to solve “critical points in lots of areas of the steel industry,” the company announced on Friday.
“Sidor has recently initiated a maintenance routine at its pellet plant, which is followed by an extraordinary, general halt [in production],” the company said, while the events will be “preventive” and will last two weeks.
Sidor said the measure will result in “great benefits” for the company. Last year, Sidor produced 1.03 million mt of liquid steel, its worst production level since 1980, as the company has been hit by conflicts with workers, lack of investments and technology.
