Vale to make first iron ore shipment from Serra Leste mine

Brazilian iron ore producer Vale has commenced iron ore production at its Serra Leste mine, in the state of Para, the company said in a statement.

Vale is now producing the product at the Serra Leste site after receiving the last of three permits it needed in order to operate, and the company is preparing to make the first shipment of the product, totaling about 34,000 mt.

Vale said the license it received from Semas, Para’s environment authority, allows the company to use the both the Serra Leste road and railway.

The Serra Leste mine is about 31 miles from Curionopolis and has an initial reserve of 307.4 million mt, with an average grade of 65.4 percent iron.
