Vale to begin exporting coal from Mozambique in August

Brazil-based iron ore mining company Vale SA announced Tuesday that the first shipment of coal from its Moatize metallurgical and thermal coal mine in Tete, Mozambique was delivered to the Port of Beira on Monday and is expected to be exported this month.

The train transporting the coal carried 2,200 metric tons (mt) of coal. Once current expansions are completed, Vale will have the capacity to produce as much as 8.5 million mt of metallurgical and 2.5 million mt of thermal coal from the Moatize project.
