Brazilian steelmaker Usiminas has partnered with Fiat Chrysler to provide steel to be used in Jeep manufacturing in Brazil, according to media reports.

Fiat Chrysler inaugurated this week a plant in state of Pernambuco, which will produce the vehicle.

Usiminas is the leading supplier of steel to Fiat Chrysler’s plant, reports said, adding its processing plant, Usiminas Solutions, will provide services in cutting and inventory product, by investing $63 million in its cable unit of Cabo Santo Agostinho, in the industrial port complex Suape, in Pernambuco.

Fiat Chrysler’s plant is expected to operate at full capacity by the second half of the year.

About one third of Usiminas’ sales in Brazil are destined to the automotive sector, which faces challenging times with lower car production.
