Usha Martin to expand capacity

Indian specialty steel and wire rope maker Usha Martin Ltd announced plans to increase its annual wire rope production to 90,000 tons by 2007, from the current 66,000 tons, in an effort to reach its goal of becoming world's largest wire rope producer. The company is currently the world's second largest wire rope producer. Sources report that Usha Martin will try to reach its goal through enhancing productivity at Ranchi and other plants. The annual production at Ranchi unit, which currently contributes 60 percent of the total production, is planned to be increased from the current 57,600 tons to 66,000 tons per annum by 2007. Moreover, the combined production at Thailand, Dubai, UK and the recently acquired JCT's steel division at Hoshiarpur will be increased to 24, 000 tons from the current 8,400 tons per annum by 2007.
