US raw steel production up 1.7 percent from previous week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending September 26, 2015, US domestic raw steel production was 1,735,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 72.6 percent. Production was 1,878,000 net tons in the week ending September 26, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 78.1 percent. The current week production represents a 7.6 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending September 26, 2015 is up 1.7 percent from the previous week ending September 19, 2015 when production was 1,706,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 71.4 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through September 26, 2015 was 66,092,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.5 percent. That is down 8.0 percent from the 71,865,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent.
