US raw steel production down almost 20 percent year-on-year

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending November 28, 2015, US domestic raw steel production was 1,487,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 62.2 percent. Production was 1,856,000 net tons in the week ending November 28, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.2 percent. The current week production represents a 19.9 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending November 28, 2015 is down 4.8 percent from the previous week ending November 21, 2015 when production was 1,562,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 65.3 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through November 28, 2015 was 80,775,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.7 percent. That is down 8.7 percent from the 88,510,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.8 percent.
