US iron ore output up 12.3 percent in March from February

US iron ore production in March this year amounted to 4.64 million mt, increasing by 12.3 percent compared to February and up 4.5 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore shipments in March this year totaled 670,000 mt, increasing by 245.4 percent compared to the previous month and down by 48.8 percent compared to March 2014. 
 
In the first three months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 13 million mt, compared to 11.7 million mt registered in the January-March period of 2014, while US iron ore shipments amounted to 3.48 million mt, decreasing by 21.6 percent year on year.
