The US Department of Commerce (DOC) released Thursday the results for US steel exports in May.
According to the DOC, the US exported 789,341 mt of steel products in May 2015, compared to 766,000 mt in April 2015 and 939,989 mt in May 2014.
The top steel products exported by the US in May were:
• Cut-length plate: 104,588 mt compared to 82,230 mt in April and 123,900 mt in May 2014.
• HDG sheets and strip: 96,436 mt compared to 97,774 mt in April and 112,937 mt in May 2014.
• Cold rolled sheet: 48,252 mt compared to 61,144 mt in April and 43,902 mt in May 2014.
• Heavy structural shapes: 47,842 mt compared to 50,857 mt in April and 56,020 mt in May 2014.
• Hot rolled sheet: 45,597 mt compared to 45,912 mt in April and 54,999 mt in May 2014.
The top destinations for US steel exports in May were:
• Canada: 370,793 mt compared to 369,935 mt in April and 508,102 mt in May 2014.
• Mexico: 284,700 mt compared to 301,240 mt in April and 328,868 mt in May 2014.
• Dominican Republic: 33,339 mt compared to 3,616 mt in April and 5,513 mt in May 2014.
• Venezuela: 9,607 mt compared to 5,526 mt in April and 2,213 mt in May 2014.
• India: 8,521 mt compared to 5,997 mt in April and 7,148 mt in May 2014.
Additionally, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) released Thursday the figures for iron and steel scrap exports from the US in May.
The US exported 1,058,587 mt of iron and steel scrap in May, compared to 958,796 mt in April and 1,375,097 mt in May 2014.
The top destinations for US iron and scrap exports in May were:
• Turkey: 338,857 mt compared to 301,418 mt in April and 439,342 mt in May 2014.
• Taiwan: 192,174 mt compared to 237,773 mt in April and 333,817 mt in May 2014.
• India: 162,001 mt compared to 71,990 mt in April and 47,190 mt in May 2014.
• Korea: 58,458 mt compared to 69,697 mt in April and 38,221 mt in May 2014.
• Vietnam: 53,786 mt compared to 930 mt in April and 78,144 mt in May 2014.
