US and Canadian weekly rig counts increase

According to the latest report from Baker Hughes, for the week ending May 18, the US rig count was up 12 from the previous week to 1,986, and up 156 year-on-year. The oil rig count increased by 10 to 1,382 (up 428 year-on-year), and gas rig counts were up by two to 600, but were still down 866 year-on-year.

After weeks of falling, the Canadian rig count increased by three to 123 and was down 20 from the same week a year ago.
