US and Canadian rig counts continue renewed downtrend

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending September 4 the US rig count decreased by 13 to 864, after an eight-rig decrease the previous week. The gas rig count stayed neutral at 202, whereas the oil rig count decreased by 13 to 662. The overall rig count is still down by 1,061 from 1,925 rigs during the same week a year ago.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by nine in the week ending September 4 to 187, after a 12-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 227 from 414 rigs during the same week a year ago.
