US weekly raw steel production up again

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steelmaking production rose last week (ended September 17), with output increasing 0.8 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended September 10), US raw steel production had also risen 0.8 percent compared to the week before.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,884,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing an 0.8 percent climb from the 1,869,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 10.9 percent increase from the 1,699,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 77 percent in the week ending September 17, compared to 76.4 percent in the previous week and 70.2 percent in the same week of last year.
