The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production increased last week (ended October 29), with output rising 0.8 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended October 22), US raw steel production had dropped 4.3 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,796,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.8 percent increase from the 1,782,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 10.3 percent increase from the 1,629,000 nt produced in the same week last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 72.5 percent in the week ending October 29, compared to 71.9 percent in the previous week and 67.3 percent in the same week of last year.
