The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell last week (ended November 5), with output decreasing 0.4 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended October 29), US raw steel production had increased 0.8 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,789,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.4 percent drop from the 1,796,000 nt produced in the previous week, and an 8.8 percent increase from the 1,644,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 72.2 percent in the week ending November 5, compared to 72.5 percent in the previous week and 68 percent in the same week of last year.
