US weekly raw steel production drops 3.1 percent

Following two consecutive weekly increases, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell last week (ended November 26), with output dropping 3.1 percent from the previous week.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,815,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 3.1 percent decline from the 1,873,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 9.9 percent increase from the 1,651,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 73.3 percent in the week ending November 26, compared to 75.6 percent in the previous week and 68.3 percent in the same week of last year.
