The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell last week (ended September 24), with output falling 1.8 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended September 17), US raw steel production had increased 0.8 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,851,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.8 percent slump from the 1,881,000 nt produced in the previous week, and an 8.9 percent increase from the 1,699,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 75.7 percent in the week ending September 24, compared to 77 percent in the previous week and 70.2 percent in the same week of last year.
