The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Tuesday that US raw steel production fell 1.2 percent last week (ended August 18), following a 1.9 percent increase a week ago and a 0.9 percent increase the week prior.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,876,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.2 percent decrease from the 1,899,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 1.4 percent increase from the 1,851,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 75.9 percent in the week ending August 18, compared to 76.9 percent the previous week and 75.7 percent in the same week last year.
