According to the United Steelworkers local 1938, the number of layoffs at US Steel’s Minntac facility will be reduced to 400, compared to the originally-announced 700. The union finalized an agreement with the company Tuesday that will allow 300 workers to remain part time, at 32 hours a week completing maintenance projects.

US Steel still plans to keep the plant idled through October 1, 2015.
