According to the statistics released by the
US International Trade Commission (
US ITC), in July this year
US steel
scrap exports declined by 3.32 percent compared to the previous month to 1.65 million metric tons, up 1.87 percent year on year.
In July,
China was the number one export destination of
US steel
scrap, with exports amounting to 398,115 metric tons, up 15.96 percent as compared to June and down 22.52 percent year on year.
China was followed by
Turkey, which increased its steel
scrap imports from the
US by 84.03 percent month on month to 308.160 metric tons, up 2.71 times as compared to July 2009.
Meanwhile, in the first seven months of this year
US steel
scrap exports amounted to 11.31 million metric tons, declining by 12.51 percent as compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
In the January-July period of 2010,
US steel
scrap exports to
Turkey amounted to two million metric tons, decreasing by 2.23 percent, while
US steel
scrap exports to
China totaled 1.95 million metric tons, down 51.83 percent, and its steel
scrap exports to South Korea came to 1.9 million metric tons, up 15.62 percent, all compared to the first seven months of 2009.
