US steel mill utilization rate nearly hits 80 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production increased 0.9 percent last week (ended April 14) compared to a 3.1 percent increase the previous week.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,975,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.9 percent increase from the 1,958,000 nt produced in the previous week, and an 8.9 percent increase from the 1,814,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 79.9 percent in the week ending April 14, compared to 79.2 percent in the previous week and 74.2 percent in the same week of last year.
